It could also be that Yankton didn't submit him for it, or that they just wanted a Rapid City kid instead of a Yankton kid. Hard to say without sitting down with the Howard Wood committee.

Olson didn't have as good a season last year, so that might explain it. He has really come on this year, though.

Olson has been running all season. Maybe Stiles had a better time a year ago - they use previous years as factors sometimes.

Good question. The time listed for lane 8 of the Special Event was close to what Olson had run, but not close enough, I guess. Michael Olson from Parker is the alternate.
